I expect Smash Brothers to come to Switch. It won't be a full Smash 5 but a port of Smash 4 for Wii U possibly with 3DS content, I would think
However, I think a lot of people will be disappointed in it because of how anticipated and hyped this game is. It is still not even a concrete thing and the Internet is full of predictions and expectations and hopes. I don't think THAT much will go into this Smash Bros game, at least, not as much as many people want.

I would love to be proven wrong though.

Oh yeah I know I definitely see that. I don't mind clones honestly. I think I just didn't like him because I never used him and he was the 3rd Landmaster final smash. If they tweaked him a little like they did with Roy and gave him a new final smash I think I could get behind him.

As long as new characters and stages are in, I’m happy with whatever we get. And by new characters, I mean Isaac/Felix from Golden Sun, and Rex from XC2 with a Pyra/Mythra Final Smash. Also they need to give the fans what the want via Ripley, ‘size’ issues be damned!!

I'm doubtful that Sakurai would want to just cop-out and make a port of Smash for the Switch - though if he does, I would fully expect him to go all out and make it a deluxe version hybrid of the 3DS and Wii U. It would make sense to be, since the 3DS and WiiU had content specific to their niches (one a handheld, one a home console), which the Switch itself is a hybrid of. As for new additions if it was a port, I could see a few new fighters added, and maybe some new mode (A new Adventure/Emissary Mode would be pretty epic, but I wouldn't hold my breath for it).

I'm not sure what will happen. Sakurai has stated that he isn't a fan of ports. At the same time though, he became physically pained from developing Smash 4, having a hand injury and taking many stressful nights to work on the game.

Despite his stance on ports, I think he would possibly consider making a culmination of the two Smash 4 games, running primarily off the Wii U's engine to get some more sales to the games that he worked extremely hard on. Even if he didn't want to work on it, I feel like the Nintendo themselves may have either pushed him to work on a port or simply let him oversee development while another director worked on it.

Of course the game would be very profitable especially with the more new content they added. Sales-wise, Smash 3DS sold 9.16 million copies as of the end of December 2017 while the Wii U version sold 5.32 copies. Both are good numbers, very good. However, when you have something like Odyssey selling 9.07 million in a few months and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (a port) selling 7.33 million copies, it would make a lot of sense to bring it to Switch. Mario Kart 8 on Wii U has sold 8.4 million copies since its release almost 4 years ago while Deluxe will probably reach within its first year or maybe a little more. Even though Smash is more talked about, it won't sell as good as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe probably, but I would estimate it getting at least 4.5 million copies in its first 6-9 months easy and probably more.

For example... I am almost sure that anyone who wants another Subspace Emissary is already setting themselves up for disappointment.

I mean... even though it makes sense to port the Wii U version.. many of us could be setting ourselves up for disappoint for even thinking it will be a thing. We don't know anything, including if it even exists.
